Q: Could you tell us about forgiveness? If you want to forgive somebody, how important is it to say it directly to that person?
M: Is the person very dangerous?
Q: No.
M: As I said, thought is the first level of creation. When the thought is happening in this specific context that you want to forgive somebody, you believe that that person hurt you. Your ego is hurt. And ego will tell you that you have the power to forgive. If there is no ego, there is no hurt, no need for forgiveness. When you go with that ego to forgive that person, he will beat you up.
(Laughter)
A bachelor once saw a beautiful girl singing on TV and immediately fell in love with her. He was also dead drunk at that time. He decided he could not live without her. He immediately called the television company in the middle of the night, saying, “I want her address or phone number.’’ The receptionist understood this man was dead drunk. He replied with all sorts of excuses- “This is the wrong time and I don’t have the address, we have to check with general manager, it’s a process, you have to apply…’’ So this guy went into an argument with the receptionist. And argument became abuse, soon extending even to family members etc. The receptionist put the phone down. This guy later regretted, “I am a professional, and I should have ethics. I should not have talked to the receptionist in this language. I will ask for his forgiveness.’’ So he called again, “Do you remember, somebody called your father, mother ***? That was me.’’ (Laughter) The receptionist got really annoyed. He abused him back. “How dare you call me again?!’’ Then they both abused each other and this time the bachelor put the phone down. Then he said, ‘‘Now it’s a relief.’’
(Laughter)
It’s from a comedy film. When we decide we can forgive somebody, this is from our ego. Who are we to forgive anybody?
How to get out of this kind of feeling? You had a relationship, you had an exchange of words, or energies or events. You did something together. It didn’t work out well and you feel hurt. So how do you get out of the karma? You have to let go of what was in the past and just be, “Ok, let me handle it. Ok, this is past, it’s history, done. Gone.’’ Don’t carry the weight. Do you know why so many pains happen in life? Because we carry the past. If you leave the past where it belongs, you are free. No incident or event can happen in life unless there is karma to it.
If you handle each situation like that without ego, whether it’s good or bad, it will operate by itself and dissipate. And the best way to reconnect is to assist, rather than telling the other person, “Ok, I’m forgiving you.’’ Most people won’t take it. They’ll say, ‘‘Who are you to forgive me? I refuse to forgive you.’’ Again friction happens. Instead, if you express kindness in return, forgiveness is automatic. Letting go is automatic. Never underestimate your power. Never think you are like a puppet in the hands of destiny. You are very, very powerful. Why we don’t feel that power is because we are bound by concepts. We are bound by “This is how it should be.’’ And you put yourself into a frame, “This is what is me.’’ If anybody else says, “No, that’s not you,’’ you may agree, but you will still keep the concept. This is sometimes why we do not experience life in its completion.
So always be practical. More than spiritual we should be practical. And how can you be practical? By being in the present. Past is dead, future has not happened yet; now is the time. Do something right now. And if history proves your action was not right, it’s ok. Whether we succeed or not, do it gracefully. Who said we need to succeed all the time? We can fail too. None of these people sitting here began walking from sitting, right away as babies. They have fallen many times. It’s ok to fall down some time. Then you will be stronger.
Q: You said if you stop being you, all your problems will be resolved. By saying ‘stop being you,’ what do you mean by ‘you’? Stop being part of my ego, stop being part of my past, or everything?
M: A good question. When I say ‘stop being you’ I mean stop owning, or doing. We always feel we are doing something. This ‘I’ is the ego, ‘I am doing’, ‘I am seeing,’ ‘I am watching,’ ‘I am experiencing.’ So when you remove this ‘I’, you are only left with action, words, thoughts and experiences. When you connect to any master (whether it is Jesus, mother Mary or anybody you like), you say, “All this is happening and everything is at your feet.” When you have surrendered everything, you stop ‘doing’. Words and activities are happening through you. But at the same time, you do not have its burden. When you say ‘I do’, you are responsible. You have ownership. When it happens through you, it’s happening. Everything is flowing through you. This is the difference I am talking about.
’Stop being you’ means your ego, your identification, I am XY, I do this, I do that. Then all the pressures and pains will come to you similarly. In Bhagawad Gita, Lord Krishna says, ‘‘If you surrender your actions and also results of your actions to me, I’ll remove you from karma or sins, whatever you want to call it.’’ That means if you are not ‘doing’, you are not ‘earning’ karma. Do your action with full surrender and say, ‘‘Ok, whatever I’m eating, is for you. Whatever I am doing, it is for you.’’
So every step you take should be a step towards liberation. You will never have a problem with any experiences in life. Because whatever comes to you (even a thought), is sent to you. E.g. you had an inclination to have an icecream. Where did this thought come from? There is a desire sitting inside. At every point in time, whatever comes your way, you will experience it 100%. Without guilt, you can have your icecream.
I would say nothing is absolutely right, nothing is absolutely wrong. No right or wrong except violence. If you express violence, it is harmful to somebody and most of all, to you. I always tell people, experience anything you like in life provided it isn’t part of violence. Violence creates heavy karma.
Q: But what if we feel a sense of ownership and control when we need to make some decision? How to make the right decision to be in the right path?
M: Look back into your life. We feel we made many decisions. This is a mental illusion. Who gave a place, a time, a situation and an environment for your decision? We experience millions of things in this world through our five senses which are connected to one mind. So, at one instant, you can experience only one thing completely. One thing 100%. No multitasking. (laughter)
In this constraint, how many decisions can we make? We perform some activity and satisfy our ego that we decided something. But karma has provided you with parents, place of birth, environment, time (duration) and awareness to experience all that you wanted. Within these constraints, how many decisions can you make? I’m just showing the mirror to you. We have to be very realistic in life. If you take this whole context, we understand how limited we are in our existence.
So what is the best way to live with all this understanding? If you understand the whole picture, the answer emerges by itself. Experience every moment 100%. Remember three words. BE. HERE. NOW. Be means be 100% you. Be you. Here means this position, this place. Now means this moment.
Never take anything for granted. If you take something for granted, this is ignorance. Whether you wake up or not, the sun will shine. We will all be gone in 100 years. So Earth is recycling very fast. In this, you have two choices. You can either own your ego or you can own consciousness. Both cannot go together. Prefer consciousness so that every moment will be 100%.
Q: Where is our responsibility in all this?
M: Responsibility is also a part of this karmic pattern. As a child, you are responsible to your parents. When you get married or have children, you are responsible to them. Just imagine, “Tomorrow I’ll do nothing.” The next day also decide the same. Do you think you can continue like this for five days? At least you have to pay the bills, electricity, food, clothes. You can try not to be responsible, but karma pushes you. I said so many times, “I am not going to travel.” Now I stopped saying this because all plans are fixed till September next year. Another sign how karma pushes you. “Ok, fine, no problem.”
SECRET OF IMMORTALITY
(in simple terms)
Q: What does pure consciousness say when technologies state boldly that they can program human consciousness to live eternally?
M: Who said so?
Q: New technologies of consciousness- one of them is a new technology in Russia by Grigorij Grabovoj, who claims that he has the technology of consciousness that you can live forever while in the body. What do you say about that?
M: What should I say, I don’t know.
First of all, how can you have longevity? Immortality is not a difficult thing. I was telling about eras- Golden age, Treta Yug, Dwapara Yug and Kali Yug. Each Yug has a character and constitution. In simple terms, immortality means longevity of life- life in the sense, existing where you are existing, with or without the body. Immortality depends on how much we operate from the energetic plane. This is also the theory behind teleportation. Existence and movement depends on what sort of energy plane we operate from.
In simple terms, we have a physical body, mind, intelligence, intellect, ego- we feel, experience and use them. All these faculties are gross. You have to dissolve these faculties into non-existence to connect to your essence i.e. the energy which we can call the soul.
And how do you reach that position? How do you transcend to that level?
From horizontal, we need to be vertical. The first and easiest way to connect to vertical is your spine. But spine is only a reference point to show you what is vertical. When you hug your spine and you start operating in the vertical plane; the past, present and future is in one line. This is also the secret of moving out of the body and coming back. If you have seen the presentation of , how fast I leave the body, or a video, this is the technique which I used. But I don’t like this kind of experimentation to prove myself because I feel like an idiot.
Once this vertical operation starts, we are perpetually connected to the center point. In other words, there are eighteen platforms visible/ experience-able above your sahasrara. We only talk about seven chakras and it’s silly- they are in everybody and it is so basic. Forget about the chakras and go beyond. When you go on top from the third eye, you travel through nirgunas i.e. gunaless, formless, flavourless zones. Only from below, there is flavour i.e. there is colour because they are connected to organs. The moment you reach here (the third eye) and travel between the two chakras- third eye and top of the head (sahasrara), there are seven centers. Each center is akin to a milestone. One this is accomplished, you are already in 360 degrees level, centered. Then you are travelling up. Each point depicts a dimensional change. Further, further… By the time you reach the eighteenth one, your consciousness is much wider than the Milky Way and the other zones. Even within the Milky Way, there are many microzones/ Lokas/ worlds with beings of various levels of subtlety. You start connecting to such worlds after a while. If you operate in this mode, you decide to keep the body or leave it whenever you like.
I’ve explained the whole secret of immortality now.
(Laughter)
I don’t think you will find these details in any book. I have no idea about this man or his technique, but as far as I’m concerned, the technique is vertical technique.
Usually, all people are karmic beings, pushed by karma. Non-karmic beings are different, they are like avadhootas. They don’t care about local rules, they exist in their own world. They will not have any particular pattern, they will not be bound by anything. These are the liberated beings. These people are sometimes not born out of karma.
Everybody else is born out of karma. When you have a karmic body, before you leave it, you would have collected all the desires for the next life. So there is no point in going up or anywhere. Because there is nowhere to go. You can only go to the next womb. In this, there is no time for liberation.
The major shift is in the pattern of the breath. From horizontal to vertical. We will try a small technique:
Close your eyes, keep your spine erect, I’ll guide you.
No movement for a few minutes. Go to the root of your spine. Breathe consciously in Ujay. When it reaches the top of the head, hold it. Then release it all the way down. Breathe in, hold, breathe out, hold. Breathe in, hold 10 seconds, breathe out, hold 10 seconds. Repeat three more times.
Residue of past lives exists in every being. That is the basis of our unique constitution. This is more or less unchangeable unless, a conscious effort is taken to understand oneself and shed it from the root. Fears created out of this residue produce such reality in life, which re-confirms the inherent fear. It will bring situations and reasons to enjoy the state of fear. Hatred and enmity brings forth such realities. Sometimes people become possessive and cruel too, because of their inherent insecurities. These are the external expressions or gross manifestations of the inherent residue. When residue leaves, you experience lightness, clarity, flexibility and finally, enlightenment. Those who lead a confused existence accumulate more residue than the ones who have clarity in action. Those who are emotional by nature, who crave for sympathy or applause, who constantly blame situations or other people for their seeming failures in carrying out responsibilities, who constantly blame injustice in society without doing anything about it, are filling themselves up with deep residue at each moment.
Where does the residue stay? Mostly in the lower region of our body. The lower part of the “shiv ling”. Shivling means our body minus legs, hands, neck and head. When energy moves through the body, vertically and horizontally, in alternate waves, the residue of thoughts, words and actions combined with emotions are dropped to the bottom. It gets accumulated or stuck at various locations of our system, of which the tangible gross is our body and intangible are the subtle meridians. It accumulates mostly around the root and the swadhishtana chakras and it in turn gets clogged over a period of time. This prevents the kundalini from moving anywhere. This is also why it is said that pushing Kundalini forcefully through mantras and practices could lead to lifetimes of agony. Removal of residue will automatically clear the path and will allow kundalini to rise to where it belongs, effortlessly and without any artificial stimulus.
The clogging at the lower part of our system stays when conscious unhooking does not take place. Forgiveness, repentance, feeding the poor, sharing the wealth with the needy and under-privileged, spontaneous acts of kindness and every aspect of truth and compassion reduce the residue. This is why such acts of kindness are well recommended in most paths of the world. Bhakti Yoga and Karma Yoga are powerful tools that reduce the residue.
What happens when residue leaves through sadhana or by the grace of the Master? Usually, all the hidden fears, anxieties and traumas will surface first. Sleeplessness, confusion and many such emotions can surface. Only a person who is strong enough to handle unknown fears and hidden traumas, can actually make use of this sadhana or practice. Some tend to suppress the residue back into themselves when faced with overwhelming fear and confusion. Some prefer to change the guru! It takes an expert guide to take you through this time. This is quite a vulnerable time and the practitioner should be extremely objective, patient and kind.
When we embrace silence through practicing witnesshood, the same happens. Negative emotions such as fears and anxieties are the first to emerge. We have to allow them to surface and sincerely let go. Many cannot. Some cannot even release their own illnesses. They hold on to everything and the whole exercise becomes futile.
In some paths, there are practices such as talking nonsense to themselves, or shouting at the wall for minutes. This is to expel the hidden residue. But, understand that the nature also has the same power to hold. There are scientific proofs that if you scold or show anger to the water, it forms a different pattern within than when you speak words of love to it. Nature holds residue of events. This is why accidents happen almost at the same place always. Accident prone areas or death prone areas tell this story. Just like we always attract similar realities. We are indeed a part of the nature and nature is integrated into us.
Watch yourself, watch through emotions, use intellect more, try to bring up all the lower emotions through breath to the higher parts of the body. Remember yourself as a Shiv ling. Breathe from the back to the front and breathe from the front to the back, alternatively, in a gap of five minutes. This could bring forth the hidden residue from lower to higher and release it from the system. When this movement becomes fine and smooth, perfect distribution of energy takes place. Equanimity and balance happens in life. I could go on and on. But, the fundamental truth of accumulation and release always remains. What you earn should be spent. What stagnates, decays. And residue slows us down and prevents us from being fluid in life. It makes us stiff. The earth and water element of our system such as root and swadhishtana suffer the most. Instability happens if earth is not stable. Contamination happens, if water is unstable or stagnant. Do not worry too much about the fire, which is the stomach center. If the lower ones are contaminated, “black smoke” of unburnt residue would contaminate the air and space, the higher chakras and obscure the heavens which are Ajna and Sahasrara. You are the world. You are the universe. So, a conscious practice in cleansing yourself is the most important thing in everyday spiritual practice. Likewise, if the guide is not confident, do not experiment. Leave kundalini alone. Instead, concentrate on the removal of residue. This is important. Make a conscious choice. Understand yourself and the reasons of your actions. Are you after spiritual elevation or sensation? Any practice can give you some sensation. Only shedding or emptying will give you spiritual elevation. You are like a balloon tied to a stone. When the stone is removed, the balloon will float up in the air. When we are heavy and caged, limitations are experienced. Unlimitedness means freedom. This is the aim of true spirituality. Rituals of unconscious nature or running after sensations cannot deliver that.
Do Gurus take on residue of their disciples? It depends on the receptivity and surrender of the disciple. Yes. Some do. Not all. Many do not even allow people to touch their feet because of this reason. True Gurus often take much blockage onto themselves. They relieve the devotee from pain by taking it on to their own body. Some even shed their body due to this. Remember, Shirdi Baba shed his body in lieu of the son of Baija maa. A true guru always protects, ignoring himself, unconditionally. Jesus only asked for faith from the people who needed his help. Babaji exists in multiple realms as a personification of unconditionality.
