On 23rd April 2022 The Earth Day Event was organized by the San Francisco Chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) & ACT Foundation USA at the India Community Center, Milpitas, California

A number of dignitaries including Mayor Lily Mei of Fremont, Mohanji of ACT Foundation, CA Deepak Chopra, Director of the ICC, Mr Sridharan Krishnamurthy President and Co-Founder of the Sankara Eye Foundation; Devi Mohan, Global President of ACT Foundation Global, and Mrs Indira Selvakumaraswami – Volunteer Coordinator, Muthu of Bay Area Tamil Manram, Chock Karuppaiah of Vetrivel Foundation participated in the event.

CA Vish Arunachalam – Founder, Chairman and Director of the ICAI, San Francisco expressed his enthusiasm at this being the first Earth Day event done by ICAI San Francisco, and that they intended to do it every year henceforth in collaboration with ACT Foundation USA. With it being #EarthDay on the previous day, it was a wonderful honor to be able to give back to Mother Earth by planting fruit trees together.

Mr Arunachalam then kindly presented Mohanji with a plaque to honor his presence at the event, and his initiative in founding the FTPD movement. Also honored were CA Deepak Chopra, Chief Executive Officer of the ICC Mr Raj Desai, and CA Vidya Rajagopalan – President of ACT Foundation USA.

The fruit tree planting then commenced outside the ICC, where Mohanji, the guests and various communities joined him in planting 2 lemon trees, 4 avocado trees, and 5 naval orange trees, which the California sun will surely treat well! Mohanji was delighted to see so many children and young people taking part and he encouraged them to have fun shovelling soil around the saplings.

Mayor Lily Mei spoke at the occasion and said that she was pleased to see such work being done there, where many generations will benefit from the fruits, shade, clean air and beauty of the trees. Mohanji and CA Deepak Chopra placed a plaque in the soil remembering this special Earth Day Event.
